Space Leadership Retreat
Las Vegas, Nevada
Some people make things happen...
Some watch things happen...
Others wonder what has happened.
The Space Special Interest Group (SIG) is by far NSBE's most active SIG with a diverse portfolio of conferences, technical projects, and other industry activities. The NSBE Aerospace Systems Conference (NSBE-ASC), operated by the Space SIG, is second only to the Technical Professional Conference at the NSBE Annual Convention with respect to number of technical professional attendees and financial revenue generated. NSBE-ASC is the Society's largest forum for technical sessions and is the only known technical conference of African American aerospace professionals in the world. The Space SIG is to date the only NSBE SIG to produce a functional technology product (Power Beaming Demonstration Unit). The Space SIG has authored more than a dozen technical papers about NSBE Space research and presented at NSBE, ASCE, and IEEE technical conferences. The Space SIG has also produced two conference proceedings with a combined total of more than eighty peer reviewed publications. The Space SIG issues an annual recommendation for the future of Human Spaceflight, which has been presented to Congressional offices since 2007, with nearly a hundred House and Senate offices receiving the 2012 recommendation.
Your active leadership is required for this work to continue. The 2012 Space Leadership Retreat (SLR) is a planning session to strategize and coordinate Space SIG activity for the summer 2012 - winter 2014 timeframe. All current and prospective Space SIG leaders are invited to attend this retreat to help set the agenda, determine deliverables, and shape the future of our Special Interest Group. You do not have to hold a leadership position to participate. The Space Leadership Retreat is being held in conjunction with the NSBE Alumni Summit, May 24-28, 2012, also in Las Vegas. See http://summit.nsbe-ae.org for Summit event details. Retreat participants are encouraged to stick around following the retreat to attend the Summit.
Registration for the reatreat is $30 and is being processed by the NSBE Houston Space Chapter via the following link. Early registration is requested to enable event planning. The SLR does not have corporate sponsorship and is financed entirely via registration revenue. Additional information is available for Space Leadership Retreat event agenda and frequently asked questions.
